automotive starting tools?

Grant Y asked:

I am going to start doing an apprenticeship for automotive tech work, like a standard mechanic does and i need to know what some good starter tools would be because i need to know because i can’t just walk in there with no tools or at least crappy ones. So far I have: Rotary tools, an electric drill, some wrenches and sockets, punches and chissle’s, ratchets, a small air compressor and a small crappy tool box with 3 small drawers and the top storage place, and a screw driver set, oh and alot of allan keys. Specific answers are very appreciated. thank you.

Oil level gauge question for 2HP, 8Gal. Air compressor?

timeggenberger asked:

It’s an electric motor. There’s no ‘dip stick’, the ‘Oil level gauge’ is a clear, round, window into the crank case. The center of the window has a smaller, concentric, Red circle.
For now, I’m assuming the level must be at, or about, the Red circle. Just want to be sure since I had the same compressor go bad before getting the replacement which I have now.

auto boost?

Billy J asked:

ok so i know s/c and t/c are compressed air, i was wondering what if you were to hook on a small air compressor on to the intake, and boost about 5-6 psi’s when you need it. I was thinking of installing the compressor in the trunk, running lines to the intake, then a pressured type button behing the pedal so when you step on all the way for accelaration it would open up the lines that go into the intake and realese the air into the intake.,,..i just want to know if something like this is possible and if it would acutaly give you a boost,.

why wont my air compressor re-start?

Matt K asked:

i have a craftsman 3 horsepower, 12 gallon oilless compressor. it builds pressure and then turns off automatically where is leaks air from a small valve that looks like a bike or automobile tire valve. i replaced this valve and it still leaks. anyway, after building pressure it turns off and after losing air it tries to kick back on but it cant. almost as if the piston is siezed. but it is not. i have to unplug it to avoid problems bc it dims the crap out of the power in the garage and i dont want to burn out the motor

replacing air conditioner compressor?

Laura P asked:

It seems the a/c compressor on a summer house i bought it too small for the house and has trouble cooling it off. I am thinking of replacing it, but even though the furnace is 20 years old it works like a charm (the heat is aweseom, just a/c stinks) My questions are do you have to change both the compressor and the furnance on a system that old. What is cost range for an 1100 sq foot house in northeast (NJ) Thanks!

work, power probelm?

Katie E asked:

A small air compressor operates at 1.1 hp electric motor for 5.6 hours a day. How much energy is consumed by the motor daily?

1hp = 750 watts
power=work/time
work=force*distance

1.1hp= 825 watts
5.6 h=20160s
power*time=work
(825w)(20160s)=16632000J I’m confused on what the question is asking for, is it asking for work?

Is there a head I can add to a paintball CO2 bottle, that will let it store compressed air?

armorsmith42 asked:

I believe there are 2 reasons that these bottles cannot store compressed air:
1) the head on the air compressor (the kind contractors use for nail guns) doesn’t match the one on the bottle
2) air is 74% Nitrogen gas (N2) which is a smaller molecule and thus will leak through the head.

I want to know: is this true, and is there anywhere I can buy a head, adapter, or nipple that will allow me to connect a CO2 bottle to an air compressor and then connect that bottle to a marker (gun)

QUESTION about rear air bag suspension?

Suave asked:

I own a chrysler new yorker 1988 and it sags in the back of my car but the small airbags in the back that originally came with it have no holes rips or tears the hoses seem fine to give it air when i turn my car on the generator to pump them up makes a noise to make the back end go up then its a little better but i was looking under there and after about 15 seconds after it pumps air to them it makes like a click noise then it sags back down again the noise comes from the air compressor thing but when i first got the car it never did this what could be wrong so theres no leaks or holes so what?

Horsepower/watt problem?

Katie E asked:

A small air compressor operates a 1.1 hp electric motor for 5.6 hours a day. How much energy is consumed by the motor daily? 1 hp = 750 watts. Answer in Joules.

This is what I did…
1.1hp= 825 watts
5.6 hours = 20160s

20160/825=24.4J

is that right?
