Why don’t they make compressed-air steam engine autos, trucks and etc?
David S asked:
This combines the ideas of the compressed air-car, multi-stage steam engine efficiency and regenerative braking. Electric power companies use steam engines to generate electricity because it is much more efficient. The efficiency of internal combustion engines has a mechanical efficiency of about 20%. Using a small steam engine, is more efficient, cleaner and simpler than an internal combustion engine however nobody wants to wait for the steam to heat up. Two 43 liter tanks of compressed-air would provide 15-20 miles while the boiler heats up. This solves the drawbacks of straight steam power. When the steam pressure becomes adequate the engine would automatically switch from air to steam pressure. During braking the engine would work backwards as a compressor forcing air back into the air cylinder tanks. The water in the boiler would keep from freezing by automatically heating the water with the fuel when the temperature was too low. SUV Results: 73.8 MPG @ 15 gal. water.
So far, this engine design appears to be a viable improvement. You should watch the Mythbusters episode “Air Cylinder of Death.” This episode proved that a scuba tank doesn’t explode so much as they take off like a rocket. Gas cylinders just have to be installed correctly. Boilers are also safe since the tubes are enclosed in an unsealed housing, a burst tube would simply let steam go out the exhaust. No chance of explosion.
The fuel used to heat the boiler could be heated by gasoline, oil, propane, natural gas, ethanol, diesel, alcohol or even hydrogen. The air to fuel mixture just needs to be adjusted to the optimum stoichiometric reaction.
Along with your opposing answer provide a possible improvement.

Air powered Car, Tell me what you think?
Michael F asked:

.
car that runs on compressed air.
OK so above this is the link to a site that to a car that’s engine only has 5 parts and runs on compressed air, but the problem is that the air runs out to quick.
so i expanded on there idea so that the body of the car has pours all over the outside of the body of a car, but extremely small, the pours also would facing the front of the car with fans through out inside of the pours pipeline it creating a suction to refill , pipe would connect to the air compressor from each small pour working together onl the whole car could take in air when your on the highway and change rotate between each compressed air tank and refill the empty ones while your driving refilling the compressed air tanks. that’s my idea of perpetual motion, nanotechnology is on the way. so imagine nano sized pours even on the body of a car..
so do u thinkj its possible that now made the care with perpetual motion?
at high speeds the fans in the pours pipeline generate high airflow in as the air is hitting the car it also created a higher speed of air allowing it to be compressed, and fans increase the airspeed into the tank or medium between the pours to the multiple compressed air tanks. so that they can be refilled in run out as you drive and one out 2 or more tanks go empty..

Whining sound fro GM A/C Air Conditioner compressor on a Winnebago built on a ‘95 Chevy van Chassis?
raptrout asked:
I hear a whining/grinding sound when I turn my A/C on. It goes away when the fan clutch engages the fan. I used a stethoscope and verified that the sound is coming from the compressor and goes away when the fan engages. The engine is a 454 and has two V-belts, one for fan and alternator and a smaller one for A/C and P/S. Any ideas?
Thanks
I looked at the egine again and saw 3 v-belts. One belt powers the P/S pump. This belt was a bit loose. P/S fluid reservoir was at proper level. Engine has 33,000 miles on it.

what kind of air compressor do i need?
Trei R asked:
i looking to do alot of bodywork on a car..i need an air compressor..but lack the space or electrical power to use a vertical electric air compressor..i want to buy a small gas powered dewalt compresssor.. it about 3-4 hp im not sure of the cfm..but is this suitable to use a sander, paint gun,etc..
4.5 cfm at 100psi
i have a vertical 60 gallon but its useless becuase it requires a hardwire and i dont want to payan electrician

Tiny Air Compressor?
vistasuxgoxp asked:
I am making an automatic disc changer for my computer with my Mindstorms NXT. This will let me burn CDs and DVDs from my school. The problem is that most air compressors are large, bulky monsters and I want to have a small one that I can put next to my computer. I don’t know how the valves and stuff work on air compressors, and I want to be able to turn the air flow on and off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can Tungsten with stand the heat of plasma with a liquid nitrogen cooling system?
Trevor G asked:
I’m wanting to build a long distance plasma cutter in essence a light saber, but the only way I can see to do that is with a plasma cutter hooked up to a small air compressor w/ maybe a 2pt tank with i guess a tungsten disk, with something similar to a nitrogen cooling system on its backside, that shoots out one end after completing the circuit to make the beam

How Can I Use Compressed Air to Lift a Load of 400lbs?
jezym108 asked:
this is for a school project
i have to find ways to lift a load of 400lbs about 30 feet into the air, without using traditional methods like rotors
i came up with using an air compressor to route compressed air into 4 small rocket nozzles to lift it off the ground
how powerful of an air compressor would i need if i wanted a constant thrust of 500lbs coming out of 4 small nozzles (125lbs out of each nozzle)?
if that is actually possible can the compressor be driven by something like a 50hp engine?
ie. an axial or centrifugal compressor attached directly onto the crank of the engine
also are there any alternatives to lift a 400lb load while having a small footprint on the ground
the only criteria being that the power required to get the load airborne should be less than 100hp

I want to use a air stapler gun for my carpet installation?
Jeremy M asked:
its for a mobile home with i think like 1″ floor boards, and the staples are narrow crown staples by aout 3/4 to 1″ in length, so what would I need for a air compressor as in minimum lbs of air, I was thinking a 100lb max compressor might do it, or do you think thats too small there are also some 125lb ones and a 150lb one, which would be the most suitable, would the 100lb work?….the flooring i believe is just press board….help!….and thanks ahead……I need Fast reliable answers…..lot of projects to do
