what type of air compressor?

David S asked:

Hi for sometime now i’ve been thinking of spray painting my car,but am not sure of what type of air compressor i should use.

i went to my harware store and the guys says the one i need will cost me over $500 in which i cant afford.

i would take it to someone to get it sprayed but am worried that he charge me a shit load,
The car is pretty old and needs a paint job.

i mean theres always the chance of selling it but the condition it looks i wont get anything………does nayone know what sort of air compressor i need …um the cars in a 1984 Ford laser sedan i dont think it would take much to paint but anyhow what are your opinions on this…cheers

Buy a spray gun and blow air through your mouth! Cheapest way to paint your car.

go to harbor frieght tools and get a HVLP paint sprayer and spray gun hvlp=high volume low pressure it is its own air compressur and it is cheaper and this is what it is made for

As long as the aire compressor can keep up with your spray gun it will be fine. A $500 air compressor to power a better end spray gun seems high. Your biggest concern should be to insure you have a quality spray gun then get a compressor to match the requirements of the spray gun.

Your best beat is a maco spray. unles you ahve a paint booth and a good gun its gonna look like shit. But if your detrimened you can get a small compressor that hold at least 10 gallons and 125psi and spry the car one fender and one bumper at a time you can do it with a small tank as long as you have the right psi and you do little parts of the car at a time. And makes sure you prep it correctly or the apint will just peal and flake off.

check how much pressure it takes to run the paint gun if it’s not more than say 150lbs porter cable makes a nice compressor which is maintenance free about 189$
