would it be economical to have a car run on compressed air?

askmike asked:

this is my idea/invention but if it could do some good it would be worth it. wouldnt you only need a small engine to run an air compressor..?

No becasue to use compressed air you need a propellant.
A can of compressed air contains half propellant.

You would need an efficient way to transfer the compressed air into usable horsepower, and you would need a HUGE tank to hold the compressed air. If you don’t want a tank, you would need a HUGE motor to put out enough pressure to not require a tank. There is a reason no one has pursued this.

Not even close! It would look very similar to a locomotive.See where this is going? Do you play paint ball is this where your idea came from?

It would take more energy to compress the air than you could get out of the compressed air. Net loss of energy.

If you only needed it to go about 50 feet or so then yes otherwise completely impractical
