Auto AC issue. Fan blows hot air. Is it the compressor or what?
sherrazzi asked:
Had freon evacuated, flushed, filled. Kept the car cool for 3 days and then back came the hot air again. Now I’m told it is the air compressor which is another eight hundred dollars. Mechanics am I being scammed? I read on the internet that the acumulator/drier and some other small part needs to be changed when the flushing the AC, but this was not done. Could that be the problem? Help………
They could not find any freon leaks and more freon was put in. The mechanic said he changed a couple of o rings at the same time as the flushing was done. Still couldn’t find a leak. Third time I took it in they said the compressor had a leak and it needed to be replaced. Is it possible that a leak was not found and then all of a sudden was found and now the charges would be a lot more. I don’t have a good feeling about this. What about the accumulator/drier thing?

I already have 244.00 invested in the flushing, 2 o rings, Is it possible that a leak was not found and then all of a sudden was found and now the charges would be a lot more. could be something as small as an Oring…………
at least yours blows hot air when i turn my AC on the car shuts off! @.@
You need a new compressor and I think they are suppost to change some parts when they do that
No more Freon. It blows air, but the air is not cooled by the gaz anymore.
That’s the way an AC works. Air is cooled down by a compressor/detendor machine, then blowed in your car. Now it’s just not cooled anymore. The compressor might still work, but if there’s no freon to compress, it won’t cool anything down.
So the air comes out hot. Might be the compressor though. A check up is needed, for sure.
sounds like a leak to me, its hard to tell without looking at it. Did they check to see if the freon is still full? Cause i would think why would it be cool for 3 days then hot again. Just a guess without being able to look at it.
Have freon with colored dye added to the system to check for leaks.
You’ve got a leak someplace. Whoever charged the system didn’t do their job properly. The law requires that the system be tested for leaks BEFORE it is charged with refrigerant.
It sounds like your mechanic is incompetent. Take it to a qualified A/C technician. It may well be an unrepariable leak in the compressor but you need someone qualified to look at it and diagnose the cause correctly. This guy sounds like a “shotgun” troubleshooter, replacing parts until he stumbles on the cause.
Anytime that a compressor is replaced the receiver/dryer needs to be replaced as well. The system also needs to be flushed to get any contaminants out of the system. If that isn’t done it will fail again fairly quickly.
there is a way to find a leak using a UV leak detector u can buy the stuff at autozone and put it in the ac system just like freon and if it leaks u use a black light at any point where it is possible to leak and it will glow that way u dont have to just spend so much on the ac compressor if it isnt bad there is a place u can go called Air Components in Phoenix arizona they deal with just AC parts and are cheaper than most auto parts stores. I am in charge of the commercial department at the auto zone i work at and i sell the parts from that place before i sell what we actually have on the shelf because the price is so much less sometime half the cost what we have marked on the compressors on our shelf. If you are serious and really need a compressor go that way the warranty is either the same or better so its worth it. but again use the UV leak detector kit first and then figure out what u need hope u get it figured out
