replacing air conditioner compressor?

Laura P asked:

It seems the a/c compressor on a summer house i bought it too small for the house and has trouble cooling it off. I am thinking of replacing it, but even though the furnace is 20 years old it works like a charm (the heat is aweseom, just a/c stinks) My questions are do you have to change both the compressor and the furnance on a system that old. What is cost range for an 1100 sq foot house in northeast (NJ) Thanks!

auto boost?

Billy J asked:

ok so i know s/c and t/c are compressed air, i was wondering what if you were to hook on a small air compressor on to the intake, and boost about 5-6 psi’s when you need it. I was thinking of installing the compressor in the trunk, running lines to the intake, then a pressured type button behing the pedal so when you step on all the way for accelaration it would open up the lines that go into the intake and realese the air into the intake.,,..i just want to know if something like this is possible and if it would acutaly give you a boost,.

Grant Y asked:

I am going to start doing an apprenticeship for automotive tech work, like a standard mechanic does and i need to know what some good starter tools would be because i need to know because i can’t just walk in there with no tools or at least crappy ones. So far I have: Rotary tools, an electric drill, some wrenches and sockets, punches and chissle’s, ratchets, a small air compressor and a small crappy tool box with 3 small drawers and the top storage place, and a screw driver set, oh and alot of allan keys. Specific answers are very appreciated. thank you.

Why does an air conditioner use so much electricity?

Radial Wave asked:

Before you classify this as a stupid question, think of this. The small motor that turns the fan at the top of the unit is maybe 2 amps and uses about 20 dollars worth of electricity in a month, if that much. However, the compressor makes my electric meter spin like a wild top out of control. Running the air conditioner makes my electric bill increase by roughly three hundred or more dollars each month — or more. By the way, my unit is only eight years old. Does anyone realize that true wealth and prosperity beyond imagination await the man that invents a genuine energy-saving compressor? So here is my real question : What the heck is in a compressor that sucks the electricity like a vampire? What could possibly be inside a compressor that uses so much juice?

The “Air Car” can’t sustain itself because perpetual motion is impossible?

Max asked:

but why can’t there be an alternator run by the engine that will re-charge a battery that runs a small compressor to slowly re-charge the tanks overnight? Why couldn’t a fan mounted somewhere on the car use wind energy from the days driving to charge the battery? There must be some way to create enough energy to run a smal air compressor, at least to improve efficiency. What would stand in the way of making that work?

How can I convert 120 Volts DC into 120 Volts AC?

mrcshbs2002 asked:

This is for a project I am working on. I need to run an small air compressor (120V - 15 amps). I know I could use a power inverter that converter 12V to 120V etc, but my friend said since I already have a 10 battery bank, I could build a 120DC to 120AC for a fraction of the cost of a big inverter. can someone tell me how to build one or give me and schematic?

Thanks

Physics Help.asap?

asa a asked:

I just found out that the hw I thought was due after Spring Break is due today! Please help! Anything you can explain will really help (not just answers please)!!!

A small air compressor operates on a 29 hp
(horsepower) electric motor for 9.8 hours a
day.
How much energy is consumed by the motor
daily? 1 hp equals about 750 watts. Answer
in units of J.
I keep getting answers like 460212244. Can anyone show me how to do this asap?

Also,
If electricity costs 17 cents per kilowatt-hour,
how much does it cost to run the compressor
each day? Answer in units of cents.

What energy is produced by a 300 W light-
bulb lit for 5 hours? Answer in units of J.

Normally the rate at which you expend energy
during a brisk walk is 3:5 calories per minute.
(A calorie is the common unit of food energy,
equal to 0:239 Joules.)
How long do you have to walk in order to
produce the same amount of energy as in a
candy bar (approximately 280 cal)? Answer
in units of min.

Air compressor chugs out?

dragonfairy1999 asked:

I was give a small Campbell Hausfeld 8 gallon air compressor. It usually starts fine, but some times after filling up to 125 psi and allowed to sit, if you use it, and it tries to kick on, it chugs, only coming up to about 1/3 normal speed, then shuts off. If I bleed the pressure down to about 50 psi, SOME times it will kick back on and run normally. Sometimes it wont do anything but chug chug chug die. I’ve changed the oil, drained the tank, air filter looks good. The only thing I can think is over heating? But doesn’t seem to be. I’m lost at what to try next.
